Job Title: Assistant Director of Development for Salem and Portland Department: Development Reports To: Director of Development Supervision Exercised: None FLSA Status: Full time, exempt
SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Development (ADOD) is responsible for developing the donor pipeline by managing a portfolio valued at approximately $500K annually and comprised of 250 current donors and acquisition prospects. The ADOD serves as a primary interface within the region, building strong relationships within their portfolio. The ADOD will focus on soliciting annual gifts with additional asks for special projects (such as gala, opening night, broadcasts, education, and concert sponsorships, etc).
The ADOD will accomplish annual goals through face-to-face meetings with prospects, phone and email communication, written appeals, and organizational events. The ADOD will additionally be responsible for identification of new prospects, conducting prospect research, portfolio forecasting, maintenance of donor/prospect contact information in the Tessitura database, and stewardship of donors.
Position requires the flexibility to attend all scheduled events, work evenings and weekends as needed during concert season (approximately 3-5 nights per month), as well as traveling regionally for donor visits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Solicits, cultivates, stewards, and identifies lapsed, renewal, increased, and new potential donors using moves management strategies to move prospects through the donor pipeline.
Utilize knowledge of prospects' interests to develop and execute sophisticated, donor-centered solicitation strategies (85% of asks are in the $2,500 - $5,000 range). Writes proposals for presentation to individuals and corporate partners.
Manage and cultivate relationships with Oregon Symphony donors to ensure engagement and appropriate stewardship. Utilize opportunities such as education and outreach programs, rehearsals, and donor events with goal to engage donors and identify new prospects.
Actively engage in prospect identification, data mining, and research to build a pipeline to identify and qualify new potential donors.
Work with the VP of Development and the Director of Development to create and secure planned giving strategies for prospects within their portfolio and engage current planned giving donors through the Encore Society.
Track, manage, and record of portfolio activity in Tessitura database.
Plan, manage, and track processing of gifts and pledges within the portfolio (annual gifts, event pre-commits/night of donations, Tessitura Database recording, invoicing, and acknowledgements).
Manage special projects and relationships when appropriate or as needed by the Development department.
Work in conjunction with other members of the Development team such as the VP for Development, Director of Stewardship and Events, Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations, and the Assistant Director of Development, Annual Giving, to ensure annual appeals, the Gala, and grants within the portfolio are solicited, stewarded, and engaged
Provide staff support and/or manage board committees and advisory committees as assigned by the VP of Development.
Work to support Gala attendance and fundraising goals as well as managing projects for the set up and operation of the event.

Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years’ experience in Development, specifically with solicitation preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Evidence of ability to achieve goals.
Strong organizational skills; self-starter; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to effectively manage and grow relationships.
Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written; customer service focus; ability to interact effectively and empathetically, and build rapport, with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Experience with tracking work in a donor database. Working knowledge of Excel and other programs in the Microsoft Office suite. Experience with Tessitura a plus.
Quantitative and logic skills; ability to budget and forecast with accuracy. Positive, imaginative, and pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
Local travel required. Valid driver's license, vehicle, and liability insurance are required.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, at all Salem concerts/events and a number of Portland events/concerts.
Sense of humor required. Passion for live symphonic music a plus.
