Tax Preparer at Above All Accounting, Inc.

Above All Accounting, Inc. is seeking a Tax Preparer for a full-time role focused on tax preparation, planning, and filing. This individual will be responsible for preparing, submitting, and managing tax returns for individuals, small businesses and various entity returns, with accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. The Tax Preparer will also provide strategic tax advice and planning support to clients. The ideal candidate possesses knowledge of relevant tax laws and regulations and will act as a trusted advisor to help clients achieve their financial goals and drive meaningful, long-term results.

Job Information

Location(s): Onsite – Multiple locations – Hillsboro, OR; McMinnville, OR; Scappoose, OR; Clackamas, OR; Port Orange, FL
Employment Status: Full-time, Non-exempt (hourly)
Pay Rate: $25.00 - $34.00 per hour
Reports to: Office Manager
Schedule: 9am – 5pm, Monday through Friday 

The wage range for this role considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

Essential Functions

Duties and Responsibilities

The individual in this position is expected to engage in the following work-related activities:
  • Accurately prepare and file individual and business tax returns adhering to federal and state regulations.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, address client inquiries, and articulate complex tax issues in understandable terms.
  • Conduct thorough research on challenging tax matters, ensuring compliance and effective resolutions.
  • Uphold client privacy, securely managing information and meticulously documenting tax preparation activities.
  • Remain informed on tax legislation as necessary to maintain adherence to all laws.
  • Interview clients to gather relevant financial information and understand their tax situations.
  • Review financial records, such as income statements and documentation of expenditures to determine forms needed to prepare tax returns.
  • Compute taxes owed or overpaid and complete necessary forms in accordance with tax laws and instructions.
  • Offer advice on tax planning and financial decisions that may impact clients’ tax situation.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative, client-focused environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

The following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Current Licensed Tax Preparer (LTP) certification or higher is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in tax preparation or relevant financial experience.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Experience with tax preparation software or familiarity with Intuit QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

The following capabilities are required in order to perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation that do not create an undue burden on the company are available to address the following requirements:
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time (approximately 80% of the workday).
  • Ability to stand, move, and walk intermittently (approximately 20% of the workday).
  • Ability to communicate readily and effectively, both in verbal and written form.
  • Use of standard office equipment including computers, phones, calculators, and printers.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, reaching, carrying, and/or lifting of files or boxes up to 15lbs may be required.
  • Vision abilities – must be able to effectively see within an office environment, which may include long term computer exposure, and to adjust focus accordingly.
  • Able to concentrate on a task or series of tasks for extended periods of time.
  • May require working flexible hours or overtime, including evenings and weekends during busy season (February – April).
The duties of the job are primarily performed in an office environment. There is some exposure to noise in the work environment, which is usually mild to moderate. This position is 100% in-person and ineligible for remote work.
