Title: Professional Development Associate
Reports to: Senior Director
Salary Range: $45,000 - $60,000
Status: Full-time Exempt

Job Description
The Professional Development Associate is a key member of the Member Relations team and program manages IEDC’s professional development training course portfolio and awards program.  
Areas of Responsibility
  • Professional Development Training Courses
    • Work with the Director of Professional Development to set the annual course calendar to ensure effective, well-timed delivery of courses 
    • Manage the recruitment, support and evaluation of volunteer course instructors 
    • Manage training course logistics and registrations 
    • Assign and train IEDC staff for on-site and/or virtual course administrative duties
    • Ensure the training course budget and revenue goals are being met and expenses are in line with budgets  
    • Liaise with IEDC marketing team to ensure up-to-date and accurate messaging about programs are released in a timely fashion 
  • Excellence in Economic Development & Honorary Awards Programs
    • Manage the call for entries and judging process for IEDC’s Economic Development and Honorary Awards programs
    • Collect program descriptions and other collateral necessary to highlight award recipients 
    • Work with the Honorary Awards Committee throughout the year and to determine the award recipients 
    • Request and write materials necessary for the Lifetime Achievement, Chairman’s Award, Citizen Leadership and Leadership for Public Service honorary awards 
    • Manage creation and distribution of award plaques 
    • Manage the awards ceremony including preparation of scripts and PowerPoint presentations 
  • Member Advisory Committee
    • Operate as the staff liaison for the Awards Advisory Committee
    • Work with the committee leadership to schedule committee meetings and assist with meetings facilitation 
    • Keep meeting minutes and ensure timely communication 
Primary Objectives
  • Ensure that programs and services continue to grow and meet the organization’s strategic objectives
  • Keep programs and services within budget and meet revenue goals
  • Ensure that committees receive information in a timely fashion and that their work aligns with the objectives established at the beginning of each year
  • 1-3 years experience in program management, preferably in the not-for-profit or association sector 
  • Experience with professional development courses and credentialing programs desired
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Organizational, administrative and time management skills are a must 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, independently and with supervision 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information 
  • Proficient in MS Office, Teams, Zoom and association management software
  • Occasional out-of-town, overnight travel is required
  • If not located within commuting distance of our Washington, DC office, must be located in the United States, have reliable access to dedicated high-quality internet service, and willing to accommodate on an Eastern U.S. schedule of operations. Occasional travel to the IEDC office may be required.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; talk or hear.  Rarely required to stand or walk for long hours.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, and reach with hands and arms.  Rarely required to kneel, crouch or crawl, climb or balance. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
