Maybelle Center for Community - Life Enrichment Coordinator

 

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for the creation and implementation of the recreation program designed to enrich the quality of life for our residents. This includes leading in-facility activities such as arts, games, music, and special events, as well as outings for shopping, to museums, movies, recreational sites, and more. They will collaborate with colleagues and residents to plan a program of activities that promote the social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual development of residents. The coordinator will also support residents in their daily activities including care, apartment organizations, behavioral support, and escorting to appointments. They will treat each resident with respect and dignity, recognizing individual needs and preferences and encouraging independence and a sense of purpose while fostering a home-like and community atmosphere throughout the Residence.
 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with other Life Enrichment Coordinators and Resident Services Manager to best meet resident needs by considering socio-economic groups, personalities, lived experience, and interests.
  • Create monthly activities calendar in collaboration with other Life Enrichment Coordinator, Resident Services Manager, Nutritional Services Manager, the Behavioral Health Team.
  • Create and contribute to a resident-centered monthly newsletter in collaboration with the other Life Enrichment Coordinator and Department Managers (Nutritional Services, Behavioral Health, Resident Services) to curate relevant and engaging content.
  • Offer yourself as a trusted resource for residents, fostering open communication and one-on-one engagement.
  • Coordinate and schedule one on one activities with residents who prefer individual interactions or require support to avoid isolation.  These visits should happen at least once monthly.
  • Ensure all activities and initiatives strictly adhere to the facility's established COVID-19 policies and guidelines. 
  • Conduct comprehensive initial and quarterly Life Enrichment assessments to understand individual resident needs and preferences.
  • Proactively engage residents by promoting and encouraging participation in diverse activities, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily participation and engagement data to track progress and measure effectiveness.
  • Effectively manage activity logistics by setting up, facilitating, and breaking down activities and events while maintaining organized and clean common areas and Life Enrichment closets.
  • Design visually appealing and informative activity flyers to generate interest and participation.
  • Create a welcoming and festive atmosphere by decorating common areas for seasons and holidays, contributing to a positive and engaging environment.
  • Provide compassionate assistance with personal care tasks such as hairdressing, dressing, and occasional incontinence care, particularly during outings.
  • Accompany residents to appointments and other errands, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Offer support with apartment organization upon request, promoting independence and dignity.
  • Extend empathetic support to residents requiring additional behavioral guidance, adhering to established behavioral support plans when applicable.
  • Track department spending and remain within budget as determined by the manager. 
  • Meticulously document pertinent information in resident charts and other required documentation, including incident reports as per policy.
  • Stay informed by regularly reviewing staff communication records and maintaining familiarity with individual resident records.
  • Contribute to resident care continuity by actively participating in reviewing and finalizing Service Plans quarterly, Behavioral Support Plans monthly, and Interim Service Plans daily.
  • Remain calm and follow established emergency procedures during critical situations, seeking additional assistance when necessary.
  • Assist with projects as assigned and must perform other related duties.


Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record to transport residents for appointments, outings, and activities.
  • Commitment to upholding consistent professionalism and dedication to resident well-being.
  • Demonstrated commitment to following all work safety, administrative rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in social service settings or community-based care with prior experience working with diverse populations and understanding their needs.
  • Preferred knowledge of trauma informed environments with an ability to create safe and supportive spaces for residents.
  • Advanced knowledge with Microsoft office to utilize technology effectively for documentation, resident engagement, and other tasks.
  • Openness to learn new systems, equipment, and best practices to continuously improve resident support and care.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and resident needs with a positive and accommodating approach.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and forges positive and trusting relationships with residents, fostering a sense of community, and belonging.
  • Approaches problems with creativity and resourcefulness, finding effective solutions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Maintains composure and clear thinking during unexpected situations, adapting readily to changing circumstances.
  • Employs effective communication skills to actively listen, clearly express ideas, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams, including direct care staff, nurses, community safety technicians, managers, and other facility personnel.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment, readily contributing to teamwork and achieving shared goals.
  • Able to set firm and healthy boundaries with both residents and staff.

Compensation:

Starting salary range will be $22.91- $26.36/hour.


Changes During COVID:

As an assisted living facility that provides 24/7 care for residents, most staff positions are required to be onsite. Macdonald Residence is highly committed to maintaining a COVID free environment. Working remotely can be arranged as is reasonable to carry out the responsibilities of this position. All staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Macdonald Residence has a robust COVID-19 protocol in place that includes the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), sanitization regimens and other activities to assure appropriate social distancing when there is a risk of exposure. All staff are tested in the facility for COVID-19 when necessary.
